Sguigna (aka Dr. Carla) was born in New York and was raised both there and later in England. She attended Harvard Medical
School from 1986-90 and completed her internship and residency at Children’s
Hospital of Boston
in 1993. She is board certified in Pediatrics.
After two years of private practice, Dr. Sguigna joined the General Pediatrics staff at Children’s National Medical Center
in Washington, DC. At the Adams Morgan outpatient clinic, she spent the next ten years caring for underserved children, running
asthma and health education programs, and teaching medical students and residents, including Dr. Kulp. She joined Metropolitan Pediatrics, LLC in January, 2007.
Dr. Sguigna is married
to a wonderful man who is a chef and Italian restaurant owner. In 2006, they
welcomed two rowdy and adorable twins into their family. Dr. Carla’s professional
interests include asthma and allergies, international adoption, and caring for families of multiples. Dr. Sguigna speaks both Spanish and Italian.
